Makita Plunge Saw & Case
What is it? What can it do?
A plunge saw works with guide rails to make sure it cuts in a dead straight line. You can use the saw without the rails but there’s not much point.
It’s a plunge saw because it sits with the blade above the workpiece until you plunge it down to cut into the material.
Used predominantly for cutting sheet material like plywood (although it will happily cut other timber). Often favoured for cutting laminate finished board, the guide rails have a strip to reduce chipping and the blades are usually supplied with sheet and laminate cutting in mind.
I used mine a heck of a lot on the kitchen project, cutting end finish panels, plinth, worktop and I used it for trimming the oak doors.
One thing that is really useful is if you have an MFT style bench with the special hole pattern you can guarantee you’re cutting your panels square. I’ll put some info on this in the blog.
Don’t forget you need the guide rails!
Check the detail of what you’re buying before you buy because specs do change.
